Fun Fact.... Corey Taylor's friends call him "Coco"..... You want to know the story behind that nickname so you can sound like a true fan instead of a casual?...... Well, the sight of Corey's thick tree-trunk neck baffled scientists and doctors for decades..... Shortly after this video was made, a French doctor noticed it and insisted he give him a medical examination to confirm he doesn't have a rare form of throat cancer or something else..... With Corey's approval, the doctor inserted an endoscope down Corey's throat to see if there was any obstruction and discovered that an oblong coconut was actually lodged in his throat and never able to pass down the esophagus...... The doctor explained to Corey that it had to be surgically removed right away, due to the size, and could be life threating so Corey panicked and gave in to the advisement of the emergency surgical procedure.... The surgery either took place the next day or the day after that (I cannot remember exactly)...... Upon its removal, the doctor stated that the inflammation surrounding the coconut indicated that it had been engulfed for his entire music career!!.... THAT was why his voice was so raspy and low..... Immediately following the coconut removal, his voice sounded completely different because of all the damage that had occurred..... Doctors had even suggested (among themselves) that he sounded like a trans woman with it removed, but nobody ever told Corey that prior to leaving the hospital..... With Corey being totally unaware of his vocal change and what his new tranny-like voice sounded like, he played his first show in Toronto six months after physical therapy ended and was immediately laughed off the stage...... People in the audience were actually pointing at him and laughing hysterically, calling him Barbara Streisand, as he was singing!!.... The laughter brought Corey to tears..... He ended up dropping the mic and sprinting off the stage with his hands pressed to his face, embarrassed, and insisted that a coconut of similar size be re-inserted back into his throat so he could get his livelihood back.... Over the next 3 months, he had doctors and mathematicians everywhere searching on every coast of North America for coconuts of the exact same specifications that made up the original one. They were measuring over 40 coconuts per day in hopes to meet the original specs..... Then, on a sultry morning in June on a sandy beach in Florida, Dr. Gus Witkenstein stumbled across a coconut that was a mere identical match. His micrometer readers were just about spot on and within the margin of error..... Had he not tripped over a twig while flying a kite, he never would have even noticed it, but the grace of God was shining down on Corey that day and led the good doctor to the perfect coconut!.... And so Corey went under the knife, yet again, to insert the new coconut (some doctors would refer to as "the chosen one") in the exact same position inside the throat as the original.... Although Corey's vocals were raspy once again and that deep metal tone was back, he never quite had the same range because of the inflammation recovery after the original surgery..... But THIS is where Corey's nickname "Coco" came from..... So now you know the back story.... And knowing is half the battle.
